MATSYA

One day, a beautiful girl, adorned with jewels, appeared off the coast of Tripoli on a large black fish. The Sultan's son sailed from Gharyan to see her. She told him she came from the island of Malta, and, having received a promise of her freedom, she moved down one of the streams.

But a net was thrown to cut her off, so she continued upstream, pursued by the crowd and the Sultan's son. Then, reaching the foot of the mountain by the spring, she cried out to God. An abyss opened, and she was swallowed by the river and the fish, and the water has not disappeared since.
